Mertaniemi Battery Energy Storage Facility Commissioned in Lappeenranta
Enordic is proud to have contributed to the delivery of one of Finland’s largest battery energy storage facilities, now in commercial operation in Lappeenranta.
The 38 MW / 43 MWh Mertaniemi Battery Energy Storage Facility was developed by a joint venture between Ardian’s Clean Energy Evergreen Fund and Lappeenrannan Energia, with Merus Power acting as EPC partner. Enordic supported the project as the local development partner.
The commissioning of the Mertaniemi facility marks a significant milestone in enhancing flexibility and reliability in Finland’s electricity grid, especially as renewable capacity continues to grow across the country and the Nordic region.
“This is the first energy storage investment for Ardian. It is an important step in the implementation of our strategy in Finland and more broadly in the Nordic countries. We see significant investment opportunities in combining renewable energy generation and battery electricity storage technology to build a more stable and sustainable energy system. Ardian’s and Enordic’s strong position in the Nordic countries and their experience in the long-term development of renewable energy create excellent conditions to drive the energy transition,”
— Eero Auranne, CEO, Enordic Oy
The project also represents the largest battery energy storage facility manufactured to date by Merus Power.
