Kaunola Battery Energy Storage System is now operational
Enordic Evergreen is pleased to announce that the Kaunola Battery Energy Storage System (30 MW / 30 MWh), located in close vicinity to Riihimäki in Southern Finland, has successfully entered commercial operation.
Kaunola is the second battery energy storage asset now operational for Enordic Evergreen and for Ardian’s Clean Energy Evergreen Fund in the Nordics. The project represents an important milestone in the continued deployment of grid‑scale storage solutions that support the integration of renewable energy and enhance power system flexibility and resilience.
The facility has been developed to provide fast‑responding capacity to the electricity grid, contributing to grid stability while enabling a higher share of renewable generation.
“The commissioning of Kaunola has been a strong team effort, and it is rewarding to see the asset now delivering value to the grid. The project follows the new SJV2024 grid code and its Grid forming capability highlights how battery storage systems enable a more flexible and resilient energy system for us all.”
– Eero Vehka-aho, Project Manager
“With Kaunola now operational, we continue to strengthen our footprint in the Nordics. Battery energy storage is a key enabler of the energy transition, and we are proud to invest in leading edge solutions that support grid stability and the integration of renewables.”
– Timo Pohjakallio, CEO
